Students will learn about the life and art of American Mural painter Thomas Hart Benton, to prepare them for creating the ALPENA HISTORY  MURAL, where students can learn about the Trail of Tears in Arkansas, particularly passing through Alpena. 

Students can create a drawing of their version of the Trail of Tears passing through Alpena. 

*Students can learn about the role of the Railroad passing through Alpena, to prepare a drawing depicting the Alpena Depot, railroad, and people of this time period.     DIEGO RIVERA:

His life, culture, inspiration, and mission as a MURAL ARTIST. 

Students can learn about famous portrait artists/ Leonardo Da Vinci/    Students can learn how to use the Croquis technique of briefly drawing something in a 'Short Amount of Time" to simply complicated details into their simplest elements such as:            The Human figure , particularly active gesture figures, draw and paint a Self-Portrait.              

                   Students can experiment drawing still life arrangements daily which will include: overlapping objects, geometric shapes, organic shapes, and value changes using: pencil, charcoal, ink.                        Art II Portfolio: students can create a personalized Art Portfolio                       Draw then carve linoleum tiles to: Create Unique printing plates, printing  cards.   Students will develop basic contour line design for String Art projects. Students will create a Wood-Burning "Vocabulary" of each tool shape; stain wooden board, allow to dry 24 hours/ develop design including decorative boarder, safely wood burn their project. 

*Learn about local history including the Trail of Tears and its impact on the people of the area.
